  • 73% of experts agree that mixing wood and painted cabinets is the most popular cabinetry trend.

Top Kitchen Design Trends 2025

Survey results visualization showing the most popular kitchen design trends in 2025.Mixing materials and finishes has been popular for a few years already, but in 2025, 51% say that it is the biggest kitchen design trend. As homeowners become increasingly daring with design choices that cater to their tastes, mixing different types of materials adds depth and dynamism to kitchen design. To achieve an on-trend look this year, Michele Plachter, Owner of Michele Plachter Design, advises “Mixed materials included mixed metal finishes, painted kitchen cabinets in an unexpected yet sophisticated color, high-end appliances, and multifunctional islands.”

For a sleek, clean look in kitchens, 48% of experts say seamless, built-in appliances are going to be a top trend this year. Patricia Marie Kelly, Owner of Marie Kelly Unlimited, is one professional who believes this, saying “[...] clean lines with appliances that seamlessly disappear into the design will be high on the list for homeowners in 2025.”

42% of experts say that multi-functional islands with storage will be one of the biggest kitchen design trends this year, as Plachter mentions above. A multi-purpose island combines various features, often including a sink, cooktop, and storage, along with seating space for stools to function as a bar. Additional options might include wine racks, a dishwasher, or open shelves. These extras make it much more practical than a basic island.

Aesthetics such as contrasting kitchen island colors, light wood finishes, and unique lighting fixtures are all cited by 33% of pros as top design trends this year. This ties in with the overall theme of making kitchen design more interesting visually.

Homeowners’ Kitchen Priorities in 2025

Survey results visualization showing what people want most from their kitchen in 2025.Storage remains the top priority of homeowners in 2025, according to 57% of experts. “Homeowners are more and more attracted to smart storage (capability of hiding items in appliance bays that can be hidden away),” says Mitchell Bage, Owner of Maison de Campagne. Having enough storage space in the kitchen means keeping the space clutter-free. Features such as pull-out trays in cabinets or a pantry cupboard help keep a kitchen organized and easier to use.

Continuing from this is having more countertop space and multifunctional spaces, with 33% of pros saying both are a major priority for homeowners this year. These features are especially important to consider during a small kitchen remodel, as they enhance efficiency and make the most of limited space. Also, more countertop space leads to them becoming more multipurpose. Clutter-free countertops allow families and friends to eat, work, study, and gather. Shirin Sarikhani, Owner of Seattle Staged To Sell and Design, says “The kitchen is the heart of the home. This is where family and friends gather. The trend is that the kitchen has become more of a family room vs. just cooking up a meal.”

Elsewhere, 15% say bright and spacious designs are going to be high on the priority list. With the room being used so often, households value open and well-lit spaces, with enough room for everyone to be doing different things.

Another 10% believe eat-in kitchens and smart technology are going to be big must-haves. “Kitchens are the heart of the home, and a need to be clean, efficient, and technology-driven for busy families and professionals,” says Kelly.

Most Popular Kitchen Cabinetry Trends

Survey results visualization showing the most popular kitchen cabinetry trends in 2025.When it comes to kitchen aesthetics, cabinetry has a major impact through color, material, and style. A huge majority of 73% of experts believe that mixing wood and painted cabinets is set to be the biggest trend in 2025. Finding the best paint for kitchen cabinets can further enhance these designs, ensuring durability and a flawless finish. Arianna Valcarcel, Owner of Pure Home Studio, comments “Sage is a color that is gaining popularity for kitchens. It blends beautifully with wood tones, has a calming effect, and this green hue goes hand in hand with the biophilic design trend we are seeing in interiors.”

This is why another 52% say natural wood grain is the most popular kitchen cabinetry trend this year. Integrating nature is one of the biggest overall interior design trends in 2025, with the kitchen being no exception.

Fluted or textured patterns are what 42% say are the main cabinetry trend. These designs add depth and a unique visual appeal to kitchen spaces. They also pair well with both modern and traditional styles, making them a versatile choice for many homes.

As Valcarcel mentioned, soft, earthy tones are going to be a popular color choice for kitchens, and 25% of pros agree. These muted shades create a calming and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for the heart of the home. They also complement a wide range of materials, from natural wood to sleek metals, making them a versatile option for any design style.

Most Popular Countertop Trends in 2025

Survey results visualization showing the most popular kitchen countertop trends in 2025.Top experts say that natural stone countertops will lead countertop trends in 2025, with 58% emphasizing their ongoing popularity. Known for their durability and striking appearance, these surfaces offer both a high-end aesthetic and practical functionality for daily cooking.

Integrated sinks are gaining momentum, with 45% of experts highlighting them as a seamless and modern feature for kitchens in 2025. These sinks, crafted from the same material as the countertop, create a clean, minimalist look while being easy to maintain and highly durable.

Sustainable and eco-friendly materials are becoming a major focus, with 37% of experts prioritizing them as a key trend for 2025. From reclaimed wood to recycled glass, these materials not only reduce environmental impact but also bring unique textures and character to kitchen designs.

Bold veining patterns are highlighted by 33% of experts as a way to make a statement in 2025 kitchens while mixed materials (31%) are set to feature, as seen as the major overall trend this year.

As Kristie Barnett, Owner of The Decorologist, points out, “Kitchens will incorporate more color, pattern, and texture than we've seen in many decades.”

Real Estate: What to Change When Selling

Survey results visualization showing what is most off-putting to homebuyers in kitchens in 2025..If you’re a home seller in 2025, you want to be aware of what is most off-putting to potential buyers. Brittany Lyons, Owner and Principal Designer of Brittany Lyons Interiors, says “Kitchens are still the heart of the home and the number one reason a home usually sells.”

The biggest turn-off for homebuyers is insufficient storage, according to 66% of industry insiders. This mirrors the top priority for homeowners being ample storage. 51% of experts say busy or outdated tile patterns put potential buyers off. Old and ugly features immediately mean an added expense for new homeowners. This is similar to the 33% who say outdated fixtures are off-putting.

45% highlight a lack of natural light in the kitchen being a problem when it comes time to sell. Bright, sunlit spaces are more appealing to buyers, making a kitchen feel larger and more inviting. Installing windows or skylights can boost resale value and enhance the overall atmosphere in the home.

Most Wanted High-End Features

Survey results visualization showing the most wanted high-end kitchen features in 2025.Natural stone countertops are the most wanted high-end feature, with 39% naming them as such. Their timeless beauty, durability, and unique patterns make them a favorite for creating a luxurious kitchen feel.

31% of designers believe people are focusing on beverage stations as a dream feature. These dedicated areas make it easy to prepare coffee, tea, or cocktails, keeping the main kitchen space free for cooking.

Luxury stone backsplashes, with 30% of experts highlighting their appeal, emphasize the desire for quality stone features. These dramatic, high-end pieces create a seamless look when paired with matching countertops or add striking contrast when used alone.

A pot filler faucet is a sought-after feature for 2025, with 22% of top experts saying homeowners want it for a more functional kitchen, while wine fridges are becoming a kitchen essential, with 22% of experts pointing to them as a most wanted trend in 2025.

The "dirty kitchen" concept is growing in popularity, with 19% of experts emphasizing its desire among homeowners. As Dahlia Mahmood, Owner of Dahlia Design, says “[...] luxury walk-in pantries and butler pantries will be a big trend in 2025.”
